The Affordable Storage Bins I Use to Organize Our Home

Our house is a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom, roughly 1,400-square-foot home with an additional 200 square feet in our sunroom. It felt like so much space when it was just the two of us, but as we’ve added more family members—and more stuff—it’s started to feel a lot smaller. Now that every bedroom is being used for its intended purpose (no more office/guest room giving us an extra closet), storage space is definitely more limited.

When I was younger, I never believed in spending money on bins just to put other things in. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how important it is for everything to have its own place—and how much storage bins and organizational tools help make that possible. While I’ve moved past that old mindset, I’m still not interested in spending $$$ on bins. I focus on functional, affordable options that get the job done.

Before both babies arrived, my nesting instincts kicked in—organizing, purging, and figuring out how to better optimize our space. These are the storage solutions I’ve purchased and continue to use throughout our home.

Most of these bins are budget-friendly, easy to find, and versatile enough to use in multiple rooms.

These are great for bulkier items and spaces where you want everything contained but still visible. Don’t forget the lids!

Where we use them:

  • Garage pantry (baking supplies)

  • Coat closet shelf (hats)

  • Linen closet (crafts, pictures, beach towels, travel packing cubes)

Brightroom Open Front Storage Bin

Where we use them:

  • Above our garage pantry (overflow pasta boxes, SPAM, canned chicken, broths)

  • Laundry shelf (stain removers, wrinkle release, dryer supplies)

Brightroom Medium Multipurpose Storage Bin

13” L x 5.5” W x 9.75” H

Vertical storage is key with these.
